Congratulations to our new alliance partner, Riverbed Technology, on being identified as the market share leader in WAN optimization controllers! Gartner has recognized the company as the market share leader for first quarter of 2008, the 7th quarter in a row that the company has been recognized as the market share leader in this space! With many of our prospects and customers investigating and implementing application acceleration and WAN optimization technology in order to reduce WAN traffic, we felt it important to be tightly integrated with vendors in this space so that network operators don’t lose the end-to-end visibility that they receive from NetScout’s nGenius Performance Manager. We chose to partner with Riverbed because of their great WDS technology and market leadership position. We’ve been working with Riverbed for several months now and announced our partnership with them in June. We’ve extended nGenius Performance Manager to support Riverbed’s technology and provide network and application visibility into WAN traffic that has been optimized and accelerated using Riverbed Steelhead appliances. This is going beyond application response time measurements taken from a LAN-perspective (which we can also do), but is actually using NetScout’s deep packet inspection technology and packet-flow analysis capabilities to provide our users with full visibility into application traffic and network bandwidth utilization on the WAN.
In addition to being able to continue to use NetScout’s market leading network and application monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities, customers will also be able to use the integrated solution to identify and quantify the need for optimization before it gets implemented, baseline network and application performance prior to deployment, and then use that baseline to assess the improvement in performance they’re realizing after deploying Riverbed’s Steelhead appliances.
Riverbed support is offered as an element of nGenius Performance Manager at no incremental cost to our customers. We’re very excited to be able to not only provide our users with the best network and application performance analysis solution, but to be able to extend the value of nGenius Performance Manager to support our customers and prospects as they decide to deploy Riverbed’s technology.
Have you considered using WAN optimization or application acceleration? Have you delayed or decided against implementing it because of the potential loss of visibility? What are your thoughts on this new partnership between Riverbed and NetScout? We’d like to hear your thoughts in the comments!
